Srinagar, Feb 06 (KF): In a rigorous sweep, a Srinagar food safety team led by Assistant Commissioner Yameen ul Nabi inspected manufacturing units in Zakura and Hazrabal, particularly targeting businesses dealing with ready-to-eat food, bakeries, and spices. Their focus was on ensuring adherence to sanitation and safety standards.
The inspection revealed concerning findings in two compounding units, where significant sanitary challenges were identified. These non-compliant units now face imminent legal action for violating food safety regulations.
Furthermore, the team promptly seized and destroyed approximately 80 kilograms of minced meat deemed unfit for consumption due to unsanitary transportation conditions. This decisive action highlights the team’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
Food business operators across the inspected areas received stern warnings to strictly adhere to the Food Safety and Standards Act. Assistant Commissioner Nabi emphasized that any lapses in complying with these regulations would result in serious repercussions, including the potential closure of their facilities.
This crackdown is not an isolated incident but part of an ongoing initiative spearheaded by the authorities to guarantee food safety standards throughout Srinagar city. Recognizing the importance of consumer vigilance, officials urge concerned individuals to report any encounters with substandard food items by calling the toll-free number 104. This collaborative effort between authorities and the public aims to create a safer and healthier food environment for all residents of Srinagar. (KF)
