Record-Breaking Cold Wave Grips Kashmir and Ladakh, Larnoo in Kokernag Shivers at -17.7°C

Srinagar, Feb 02 (KF):  Kashmir and Ladakh, are experiencing a bone-chilling cold wave with temperatures plummeting to record lows. Larnoo in Kokernag, Kashmir, recorded the most extreme temperature at a staggering -17.7°C, shattering previous records for the region. Other areas in Kashmir, including Sonamarg (-15.1°C), Pahalgam (-11.9°C), and Gulmarg (-12.0°C), are also facing unprecedented chills.

While Jammu city itself enjoys a milder 5.7°C, some locations in the Jammu region like Banihal (-6.8°C) and Bhaderwah (-5.2°C) are feeling the winter’s bite. Ladakh, known for its harsh climate, is also shivering with Leh at -9.4°C and Kargil at -11.5°C. The situation in Drass remains unclear with missing temperature data, but its high altitude suggests similar extreme cold.

Qazigund: -9.4°C, known for its scenic beauty and proximity to Pahalgam.

Kupwara: -4.4°C, located in the north of Kashmir with stunning mountain landscapes.

Anantnag: -8.5°C, a major administrative town and historical site.

Ganderbal: -3.1°C, home to famous tourist destinations like Sonamarg and Manasbal Lake.

Pulwama: -2.8°C, known for its apple orchards and saffron cultivation.
Bandipora: -2.3°C, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and famous for its freshwater springs.
Baramulla: -1.5°C, a major commercial and cultural center located on the Jhelum River.
Budgam: -2.0°C, known for its historical sites and apple orchards.
Kulgam: -9.3°C, located in the south of Kashmir with fertile valleys and scenic beauty.
Shopian: -10.7°C, known for its apple orchards and historical monuments.
Banihal: -6.8°C, located on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and known for its stunning mountain views.
Batote: -3.8°C, a popular hill station offering breathtaking vistas.
Katra: 5.7°C, the base camp for Vaishno Devi Shrine, a major Hindu pilgrimage site.
Bhaderwah: -5.2°C, a scenic hill station surrounded by dense forests.
Kathua: 4.7°C, known for its ancient temples and historical significance.
Ramban: 0.7°C, located on the banks of the Chenab River.
Reasi: 2.9°C, known for its beautiful temples and natural landscapes.
Samba: 2.6°C, a historic town situated on the banks of the Basantar River.
Udhampur: 0.4°C, a major commercial and transportation hub.
Poonch: -2.0°C, known for its scenic beauty and rich biodiversity.
Rajouri: -0.8°C, known for its historical forts and temples.
Kargil: -11.5°C, a historic town situated on the banks of the Indus River.
