Weather Update – A new WD will affect J&K on February 27th: MeT

Srinagar, Feb 20 (KF):  The Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT) has issued a weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting intermittent light to moderate rain or snow across most places in the Kashmir Division on February 20th.

The possibility of light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches also exists. This weather pattern may continue until late afternoon or evening.

The Jammu Division can expect similar conditions, with the addition of thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in the plains. However, snowfall in the Jammu region is likely to be confined to the higher reaches.

Fortunately, there is a forecast for gradual improvement on February 21st, with intermittent light rain or snow limited to a few places in both divisions. Additionally, no significant weather activity is anticipated until February 27th.

However, a new chapter unfolds at the end of the month, as fresh western disturbances are expected to affect the region from February 27th onwards. Specific details regarding this development are still awaited.

In light of the recent heavy snowfall in some areas, an advisory has been issued for residents in hilly regions, urging them to avoid avalanche-prone and sloped areas. Travelers and tourists are also advised to strictly follow instructions issued by the administration and Jammu and Kashmir traffic police. (KF)
