Baramulla Duo Detained Under PSA for Anti-National, Anti-Social Activities

Baramulla, Jan 29 (KF): In a crackdown on alleged anti-national and anti-social activities, Baramulla Police have detained two individuals, Fayaz Ahmad Kumar and Safeer Ahmad Bhat, under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

The action comes after authorities obtained formal detention orders from the competent authority. Both Kumar and Bhat were reportedly involved in several cases related to the disturbance of law and order and subversion.

Despite previous involvement in similar incidents, the statement alleges they continued their “anti-national & social-activities.”

“Pertinent to mention that many cases are registered against these persons and were involved in disturbance of L&O and subversion and despite their involvement in many FIR’s they did not mend their anti national & social –activities,” In a statement released today, police said.

Following their detention, both Kumar and Bhat have been lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu.

The use of the PSA, which allows for preventive detention without a trial for up to two years, has been a subject of controversy. Critics argue that it violates due process and allows for arbitrary detentions.

While the authorities have justified the action under the need to maintain public order and security, it is likely to spark further debate regarding the use of such preventive measures.

This news is significant as it highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Indian authorities in dealing with individuals or groups engaged in disruptive and potentially destructive activities. It also raises questions about the balance between national security concerns and individual rights. (KF)
