Srinagar, Feb 15 (KF): The Election Commission (EC) has announced the deployment of 635 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
This deployment is the second highest in the country, following West Bengal’s 920 companies.
Across all states and UTs, the EC has sanctioned a total of 3,400 CAPF companies. These companies include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, and NSG personnel.
In J&K, 36 companies will be specifically dedicated to securing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), strong rooms, and counting centers.
Jammu and Kashmir has five Lok Sabha seats, while Ladakh has one. In the 2019 parliamentary polls, both UTs were part of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, which held six seats.
The CEO of Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang Kondbarao Pole, will be responsible for overseeing the deployment of paramilitary forces in the UT.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law & Order Vijay Kumar will act as the Special Police Nodal Officer. (KF)
