DC Anantnag administers anti- drug pledge at Sports Stadium

Anantnag, Sep 01 (KF): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom today administered a pledge against drug abuse under the ambit of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’.

Officials from various departments and students were administered the pledge.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Basharat said that drugs are a menace to the society and every concerted effort is being made to eradicate this menace.

He said that coordination among various stakeholders including administration, police, parents, schools and peers is critical for thwarting the menace of drugs from the society.

Referring to Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan, he said the program was envisaged to provide institutional support and conduct community outreach programs so as to spread awareness about the harm of drug abuse as well as provide necessary infrastructure for rehabilitation.

He said that a multi-pronged strategy targeting supply and demand of drugs will be instrumental in eroding this menace. He called on parents and teachers to maintain vigil and intervene promptly. He said societal considerations should not be a barrier while reaching out for help.

The DC further directed various drug enforcement agencies to act strictly against drug traffickers and work on identifying serial offenders so that the supply side can be effectively tackled. He called for stringent punishments to drug traffickers as per provisions of the law.

He highlighted the important role to be played by PRIs and NGOs in aiding the destruction of drugs from the society.
It is in place to mention that similar pledges were taken in all educational institutions, public offices and by PRIs in their respective areas. (KF)
