Jammu, June 10: On Monday, security forces launched an extensive cordon and search operation to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack on a passenger bus in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.
The ambush, which occurred on Sunday evening, tragically claimed the lives of nine individuals and left over 40 others injured. The victims were pilgrims traveling from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The attack took place when the 53-seater bus was en route from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. As the bus passed near Teryath village in the Poni area, terrorists opened fire, causing the vehicle to plunge into a deep gorge.
In response to the attack, a massive multi-agency operation involving the Army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was initiated. Security forces have established a comprehensive cordon around the Teryath-Poni-Shiv Khori area, which borders Rajouri district. The operation is being conducted with the aid of advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and sniffer dogs, to thoroughly comb the region and its adjoining areas.
Officials believe the terrorists responsible for the attack are hiding in the upper reaches of the neighboring Rajouri and Reasi districts. These areas are characterized by dense forest belts and deep gorges, presenting significant challenges for the search teams.
Senior Superintendent of Police for Reasi, Mohita Sharma, confirmed the launch of the search operation and noted that local village defense committees have also been mobilized to assist in the efforts. The coordinated operation aims to cover all possible hideouts and routes the terrorists might use to evade capture. (Agencies)
