Long-Awaited Snowfall breaks dry spell in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jan 26 (KF): The prolonged dry spell in the Valley was broken as higher reaches of Kashmir Valley have received light snowfall on Friday.
An official told that Gulmarg, a well-known tourist destination, experienced snowfall. Simultaneously, Gurez, Karnah, Shopian, Tulail, and other elevated areas in the Kashmir Valley witnessed ongoing snowfall.
The Meteorological Office noted varying cloud cover and reported light snow in Sonamarg and adjacent areas.
Notably, the Meteorological (Met) department has forecast snow/rain in plains as well as in the higher reaches between January 26 to February 1.
“After the long unbroken dry spell, there is some good news round the corner. Snowfall is expected in Kashmir between January 26 to February 1,” it had said.
“Between January 28 and 29, light to moderate snowfall in lower, middle and higher reaches is likely to occur at many places while light to moderate snowfall is likely at widespread places between January 30 and 31”, a MeT department statement said.
Notably, Chilla-i-Kalan’ will end on January 31. However, the cold conditions will continue after that with a 20-day ‘Chilla-i-Khurd’ (small cold) and a 10-day ‘Chilla-i-Bachha’ (baby cold). (KNS)
