Shopian, Sep 24: In a show of remarkable courage, locals in Shopian thwarted an attempted apple theft early this morning.
Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Around 2 a.m., residents intercepted three vehicles—two load carriers and a Scorpio—in Chitragam Kalan area of Shopian.
“Upon checking the vehicles, hundreds of stolen apple boxes were found in these vehicles,” they said.
While the culprits managed to flee under the cover of darkness, the vigilant locals immediately alerted the authorities.
Police arrived swiftly at the scene and seized the vehicles involved in the theft.
An official from Police confirmed the development to The Kashmiriyat stating that the search for the burglars was ongoing and Police has launched investigation into the incident.
Pertinently, scores of apple orchardists have complained of thefts during the dark of the night in the apple-rich Shopian district during the last couple of months. (TK)
