Police Lodges FIR as Missing Baramulla Girl Converts to Hinduism, Marries in Mumbai

Srinagar Aug 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police has initiated legal proceedings after a girl from Kreeri, who was reported missing on August 16, 2024, was learnt to have converted and married a man from Navi Mumbai on August 19, police said.

Baramulla police in a statement said that the father of the girl, Gh Mohi-ud-din Sheik, had lodged a missing report at the Kreeri police station, prompting an investigation into her whereabouts.

They said “The case, now under the jurisdiction of the Baramulla district police, has led to heightened scrutiny as the incident has sparked attempts by miscreants to spread misleading and inflammatory content on social media.”

Baramulla Police’s cyber patrol unit has observed multiple posts intended to create public unrest by exploiting the sensitive nature of the incident, it said.

The police have issued a strict advisory to social media users, warning against the sharing of misleading or provocative content. The advisory said that such actions are illegal and could result in severe legal consequences, including criminal charges.

The Baramulla Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful digital environment, urging the public to exercise responsibility and caution in online activities.
